Driver Fled Without Stopping

According to police, the driver of the vehicle that struck the child did not stop to render aid or report the accident, instead speeding away from the scene. Newark law enforcement officials are actively investigating the incident and searching for both the vehicle and driver involved in the crash, according to News 12 New Jersey.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities have not released specific details about the extent of the boy’s injuries but confirmed that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police Seeking Public Assistance

Newark police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible for the hit-and-run. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the vehicle or driver is urged to contact the department immediately.

“We’re asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time or who has any information about this incident to please come forward,” a police spokesperson said. “Hit-and-run accidents involving children are taken very seriously, and we’re committed to identifying and apprehending the driver responsible.”

Growing Concern About Traffic Safety

This incident comes amid growing concerns about pedestrian safety in Newark and throughout New Jersey. Similar hit-and-run incidents have occurred in the region in recent months, including a case in April where a 9-year-old girl was critically injured by a hit-and-run driver at the intersection of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Spruce Street in Newark, according to ABC 7 New York.

In that case, a 51-year-old Newark man was later arrested and charged with assault by auto and endangering an injured victim. Authorities have not indicated whether there is any connection between the two cases.

Community Response

The incident has sparked concern among local residents and parents about traffic safety in the area, particularly regarding children walking to and from school or playing outside in residential neighborhoods.

“This intersection has always been dangerous,” said one local resident who declined to be named. “Cars speed through here all the time, and now a child has been hurt. Something needs to be done before someone gets killed.”
