Multi-Agency Investigation Launched

“This is an active and ongoing investigation, and there is no known danger to the public at this time,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer stated in a press release issued Friday, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation involves the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, indicating the serious nature of the incident.

Conflicting Initial Reports

“It was reported possibly as a shooting and a stabbing,” Toms River Police Sergeant Adam Worth told reporters on the scene, noting that additional details would be released by the prosecutor’s office, as reported by Yahoo News.

Early witness reports indicated a person was seen lying in the road as police arrived at the scene, though officials have not yet released details about the victim’s identity or circumstances surrounding the incident.

History of Incidents in the Area

This is not the first serious crime to occur on Adams Avenue in Toms River. The street was previously the scene of a shooting incident in June 2024 that led to the sentencing of Anthony Brown, 20, to prison for aggravated assault and weapons charges, according to Jersey Shore Online.

Law enforcement officials have been tight-lipped about whether there might be any connection between the previous incidents on the street and Friday’s fatal stabbing.
