Man Sexually Assaulted, Stripped and Stabbed Woman
A 23-year-old Trenton man faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, after allegedly attacking a woman who remains hospitalized with severe injuries, according to Mercer County authorities.
Jahassan Jones was arrested on May 7 following an investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and Trenton Police Department, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey announced on Wednesday.

Brutal Attack After Victim Refused Sexual Advances
According to investigators, the assault occurred on the evening of May 6 when Jones allegedly became violent after the victim refused to engage in sexual intercourse. Prosecutors allege that Jones struck the woman repeatedly in the head with a rock, knocking her to the ground, before escalating the attack.
Court documents indicate that after the initial assault, Jones allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp piece of glass, forcibly removed her clothing, and sexually assaulted her, according to Shore News Network. The victim was discovered by a passerby who contacted emergency services, leading to her hospitalization and the subsequent investigation.
Multiple Serious Charges Filed
Jones now faces three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, along with charges of aggravated assault, criminal restraint, and weapons offenses. If convicted on the first-degree charges alone, he could face 10 to 20 years in state prison for each count.
The defendant is currently being held at the Mercer County Correction Center pending a detention hearing scheduled for later this week. Under New Jersey’s bail reform laws, which eliminated cash bail for most offenses, the prosecution will need to demonstrate that Jones poses a significant risk to public safety or is a flight risk to keep him detained pending trial. Given the violent nature of the alleged crimes, legal experts anticipate the court will likely order continued detention.
Victim Recovery and Medical Care
The victim, whose identity has not been released by authorities, remains hospitalized with injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening. Officials confirmed she is receiving specialized care for both physical trauma and sexual assault.
According to medical professionals familiar with the case but not authorized to speak publicly, the victim suffered multiple lacerations, bruising, and trauma consistent with both blunt force injury and sexual assault. Her recovery is expected to require both physical and psychological treatment over an extended period.
Investigation and Prosecution
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit continues to investigate the case and is urging anyone with information to contact investigators. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, investigators were able to build their case quickly based on forensic evidence collected at the scene and testimony from witnesses who responded to the victim’s calls for help.
Assistant Prosecutor Maria Thomas, who specializes in sexual assault cases, has been assigned to lead the prosecution. The case is expected to be presented to a grand jury for indictment in the coming weeks. Local officials and advocacy groups have expressed concern about the violent nature of the attack, with Trenton Mayor Reed Robinson issuing a statement condemning the violence.

Community Resources and Response
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office reminds residents that resources are available for victims of sexual violence through the Womanspace 24-hour crisis hotline and other local support services. The Mercer County Board of Commissioners released a statement reaffirming their commitment to supporting victims of sexual assault through county-funded programs.
“This type of heinous violence has no place in our community,” said Mayor Robinson. “We stand with the survivor and are committed to ensuring that justice is served while providing all necessary support services.” Community advocacy groups have organized a vigil for later this week to show support for the victim and raise awareness about sexual violence.
